Update from the clinic

Update from the clinic - By Kevin Conforti - 1/24/2021

In the spring of 2020, CFI hired Dr. Hashmide Imbert as a part time physician at the clinic. She came to us with a heart for rural medicine and believed that God had prepared her for this difficult task. She explained that because God has poured so much into her, she needs to pour out on others from the excess. With a strong faith and love for His people, she set to work.

By mid-summer it was obvious that Dr. Hashmide was the answer to decades of prayer for the campus clinic. Her intelligence, compassion, and goal oriented nature were the perfect fit. She was promoted to a full-time position and given charge over the clinic. As with any transition of leadership, she has faced her share of adjustments, but she is proving to be a kind and gifted leader. During our weekly conversations, she talks about her work, but always lights up when she leads the conversation to faith and how the true healing that the people of Ranquitte need can only be provided through God. One conversation we had really showed me the heart she has for her work and the people she serves: “People come to the clinic sick, but I want them to leave with dignity and hope.”

Each month, Dr. Hashmide sends a report to the board. Because so many of you have sent donations to pay for her salary and the increased costs related to her work (more patients, lab tests, and prescriptions), we thought you might want to see the breakdown. Personally, I think the illnesses and patient numbers are interesting, but you may find other things that catch your eye. I think we can all agree that the patient increase is a significant praise, as the clinic is serving more people and providing better care than ever before. And it’s because of Dr. Hashmide, the nurses, donors, prayer partners, visionaries, encouragers, and patients that this is even possible. Praise God. His faithfulness endures.

Please continue to be in prayer as we look to expand the clinic and the care provided there. Currently we are researching diagnostic equipment which can be used to aid in the increasing number of pregnant and hypertension patients. We estimate that these costs will be around $6,000. If you feel so inclined, please send special donations designated to the clinic for these costs. The staff is energized and encouraged by the generosity of so many strangers, and it reminds them that their work is of significant importance.

Below is the Doctor’s report for December of 2020. For confidentiality purposes, some of the staffing topics in this report have been redacted.

HABITATION FIGUIER, ROY, RANQUITTE, HAITI.

December is a month of blessing, we have seen a total of 717 patients that’s mean 507 at the clinic in the campus and 210 at the mobile clinic. It was one of the month of reflection because it allowed me to review everything since I am leading the clinic and think about what need to be changed.

This is the list of activities and decision I have made for this month:

  • Clinic mobile

  • Staff situation

  • Bonus

  • Trip to Dominican Republic

For the clinic mobile, it was a great adventure with 4 colleagues of Lycender and the new Nurse and I. we have done 3 places BWADLANS, GUARDIRAM and BALARIVYÈ. We have seen a total of 210 patients, among of those patients, a large number of people between 50-80 years old with high blood pressure and a lot of children between 4-10 years old with parasite problem. That mobile clinic open my eyes of why I keep having people with the same contagious diseases all the time, the promiscuity and the lack of education are  the major problems. We need to think on an investment on some prevention program in order to help the curative treatment we are offering. I also have the chance to meet a lot of our hypertension patients on the mountain who can’t walk down to the clinic to continue the treatment, some of them live by themselves and some are blind… I will think about a way to get them the medicines at their house. It was heartbreaking to see the impact.

For the Bonus, despite of the moment with them, I thought that it would be encouraging at the end of the year to give them some money to celebrate independence day with their family. There is some good time and there is also some bad time with them. Some of them are very honorable and good supporter despite of all. I gave each of them $35,71 as a special THANK YOU for the year for everything they have been done Positively for the community through the clinic.

For my trip to Dominican Republic, I have spent the time looking for a place where we could find the sonographer machine for a cheaper price, unfortunately, I did not find it for a cheaper price. For the EKG, it will cost us $1500. I would suggest you to look to see if you could find a hospital donate the sonographer machine.
