Earthquake SOS: an update you don’t want to miss

A month ago, we asked for your help, and you provided.

To date, you have donated a total of $6,928.50 to the earthquake relief fund.
What does this tangibly mean?

As of today, the CFI sponsored team of 24 volunteer doctors has worked for 5 weeks primarily in 4 communities: Camperin, Lazile, Nava, and Les Anglais. They have back-backed to remote areas, carrying supplies on their backs. All total, they have served an estimated 800 individuals.

Because of your donations, they purchased:

  • 120 bags of rice

  • 500 bags of water

  • 20 bags of spaghetti

  • 3 boxes of soap

  • $600 worth of medicine

  • 100 rolls of toilet paper

  • 50 boxes of feminine products

  • 40 liters of oil

  • $100 for families with ongoing medical needs

And 100% of these purchases went to individual people who needed it the most.

And the best part? This team is only just getting started! At the end of this week, we will be sending $3000 for them to make 100 emergency medical kits to hand deliver to families in need. Each kit will include antibiotics, pain medicine, vitamins, and emergency supplies (such as bandages). They are couragous, well trained, joyful, and they are energized to do even more.

I want to share with you a heart-warming message I received from the team about their efforts.

“As we are a team of doctors, when we arrived in a place, we contacted the community leaders and we organized a place to take care of our patients. We took care of people who have been directly injured during the earthquake and people who were very sick without access to a hospital.

One of the most interesting period that touched our hearts was a lady ran to us with her daughter crying, ‘I don’t need food or anything, but please save her life, because she is my only child!’

The child was unconscious. When we did the check-up, she was severely dehydrated, so we quickly set up an infusion bag to do the rehydration. A couple of hours later, the girl started talking! The mom was so happy that she could not stop crying and finding words to say thank you.”

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you. Thank you for your prayers, your donations, and your messages of encouragement. However else your week is going, rest in the assurance that because of your efforts, lives are being saved.
